Zeeshan Siddique Sought Enhanced Security Days Before Father Baba Siddique’s Murder: Insider Reports

The unfortunate shooting death of Baba Siddique, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), in Mumbai led to increased security for his son, Zeeshan Siddique, a Maharashtra MLA. Zeeshan already had security because of his political standing, but in September 2024 he informed the state intelligence unit about possible threats to his life, which resulted in more police cover.

Security Measures and Background

After receiving threats, Zeeshan, who had previously opposed a Slum Rehabilitation Project (SRA) in Bandra’s Bharat Nagar, voiced serious fears about his safety. Police spoke with him to further explain his security concerns after he received these threats.

Three attackers ambushed Baba Siddique the night of the event close to his son’s workplace in Kher Nagar, Bandra. At first, witnesses thought the gunshot was fireworks from the Dussehra festival. Only one policeman was with him at the time of the attack, despite having police protection, as two others had been relieved earlier in the evening. Police security procedures are dependent on how each person perceives the threat.

Investigation and Motives

According to reports, the gunmen are related to infamous mobster Lawrence Bishnoi. Authorities are looking into several possibilities, though, such as commercial rivalry, connections to the SRA project that Siddique opposed, and the potential for a contract killing.

Law enforcement responded quickly to the shooting, retrieving rifles and ammo from the scene and apprehending two suspects from the Nirmal Nagar police station.
