Virat Kohli, the standout batsman for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, has become the first Indian player to score 12,000 runs in the game’s shortest format. During Friday, March 22,’s inaugural IPL 2024 match between RCB and the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk Stadium, Kohli achieved the milestone of 12,000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. In T20Is and the IPL, Kohli holds the record for most runs scored ever. In the sixth over, he reached the milestone by grabbing a fast single off Ravindra Jadeja.
Although Kohli became the first Indian to accomplish the feat, the milestone had already been accomplished by five other batters before him. The only players with greater T20 run totals than Kohli are Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Alex Hales, and David Warner. India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, is getting dangerously close to reaching the 12,000-run milestone in Twenty20 cricket, making him the second Indian to do it. In 426 T20 matches, he had scored 11,156 runs.
