Vijay Varma Reveals He Was Dropped from Sacred Games at Last Minute: Actor Opens Up About Career Setbacks

The year 2018 saw Sacred Games create a storm as the first Indian original series by Netflix, ushering in a new era of entertainment in over-the-top.

In an interview, actor Vijay Varma, who features as Moeen, shared that he was indeed supposed to be a part of the series but was removed at the last minute.

A Last-Minute Change

Vijay Varma recently claimed in an interview that his career was a plethora of disappointments in the way he always found himself standing at the edge of many opportunities.

“People used to believe in me, the casting directors. But I never got a chance for a very long time. I used to get waitlisted, get into the top two or five, and get dropped.

I was locked for Sacred Games, did measurements for costume, and was dropped off. But till then, I didn’t lose my faith. After Gully Boy, the work started coming, but since I was hungry, I signed up a lot,” Vijay explained.

He also spoke about how people stereotyped him into a particular role after Darlings with Alia Bhatt. He says that to get out of those stereotypical roles, a lot of credit goes to the filmmakers Sujoy Ghosh for Jaane Jaan, Homi Adajania for Murder Mubarak, and Anubhav Sinha for IC 814.

“I wanted to break out of this typing, but it wasn’t something I could do alone. I found support in filmmakers who saw potential in me and wanted to offer me new kinds of roles.

About Sacred Games

The ensemble cast of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte, Neeraj Kabi, Aamir Bashir, and Pankaj Tripathy headlined this show.

By Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, Sacred Games was a slick cat-and-mouse thriller about the hunt for an overground don by a seasoned cop to save his city.
