Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review: Rajkummar Rao Shines in First Hour, But Weak Script Turns Film Into a Disaster

“It’s probably true if something looks too good to be true.” Despite the fact that this slogan is widely used on posters, it is especially pertinent to Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (VVKWWV). A lighthearted and witty journey quickly deviates sharply, leaving audiences with a film that builds to a dramatic climax but ultimately implodes. Perhaps not, but we should appreciate director Raaj Shaandilya and his team for that.

The Plot

The movie, which is set in Rishikesh in 1997, centers on Vicky (Rajkummar Rao), a cheeky mehendi artist who longs to wed Vidya (Triptii Dimri), an MBBS graduate. After being married, the couple decides to spend their honeymoon in Goa rather than continuing their family’s Vaishno Devi trip. Motivated by an article recommending that American couples film their private moments in order to enhance their marriage, Vicky persuades Vidya to follow suit. However, the very following day, their house is broken into, taking with it their television system and the recorded tape. This sends their life into complete disarray.

As side stories involving Vicky’s sister Chanda (Mallika Sherawat) and an investigating officer (Vijay Raaz) develop, a search for the missing tape takes place. Still unanswered is whether or not they locate the CD. Sadly, the solution is entangled in an intricate and disorganized storyline.

What Works

VVKWWV gets off to an amazing start. Laugh riot ensues with every joke landing and the humor flowing easily. For a brief while, you might believe that the humorous timing and charm of this movie are comparable to those of Stree 2. The movie seemed to be destined to be one of the best comedies of the year after an engaging first hour.

What Doesn’t Work

However, the brakes fail just as the ride reaches its pinnacle. Subplots that are superfluous and distracting taint the second part of the movie. An inherited sword from the family, a politician embroiled in a sex tape scandal, and a home assistant falling for Vijay Raaz’s persona? Everything seems forced, and the energy of the story is lost in these side plots. By the time the movie ends, you’re left waiting tensely for the lost CD to be discovered so that it can conclude.

The script is largely to blame for the movie’s failure. The original story, which was charming and moved quickly, gradually falters when unvalued things are included. The unexpected introduction of paranormal scenes starring Stree—yes, the Maddock Horror Universe’s ghost—is startling and only serves to make everyone uncomfortable.

Performance Report Card

Even though Rajkummar Rao turns in one of his typically brilliant comedy performances, the movie continues to deteriorate. As the storyline veers off course, his portrayal of Vicky grows stale. Though her performance as Vidya is greater than in her previous role in Bad Newwz, Triptii Dimri’s character becomes less prominent in the second half of the film. Although the storyline is dull, Vijay Raaz, who is typically excellent in any part, makes an effort to liven it up, especially with a dancing number. Tiku Talsania, who plays Vicky’s grandfather, hardly makes an impression, while Mallika Sherawat is wasted. Considering her talent, Ashwini Kalsekar’s job is disappointing.

Though none of the tunes stand out, Sachin-Jigar’s music fits the tone of the movie. The lackluster narrative is not even alleviated by Daler Mehndi’s Na Na Na Na Na Re, which seemed like a potential addition.

Final Verdict

Vicky Vidya Ka Is Not Right With its unique premise and keen comedy, the video gets off to a great start. But it soon loses its way due to badly done side stories and an unclear identity that leaves viewers perplexed. The movie, which could have been a comedy blockbuster, eventually falters in its endeavor to be too much.
