Varun Gandhi rejects the BJP’s offer to fight from Rae Bareli after considering it for more than a week

Varun Gandhi, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pioneer and cousin of Congress pioneers Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, is said to have turned down an offer from his party to run for Lok Sabha from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. This place is respected as a Gandhi family fortress, with Sonia Gandhi and Indira Gandhi having already won it.

The welcome to Varun Gandhi came after the hypothesis that Priyanka Gandhi might run from Rae Bareli. Varun Gandhi, who was evacuated from his Pilibhit situate, took time to mull over the offer, recently declining it, claiming a wish to maintain a strategic distance from an individual and a divisive decision campaign.

The BJP had trusted Varun Gandhi would acknowledge the offer, given his family’s history with the situation. His mother, Maneka Gandhi, had challenged Rajiv Gandhi in 1984. In any case, Varun Gandhi’s choice not to challenge has left the BJP without a candidate for Rae Bareli.

The Congress, on the other hand, has not yet reported its candidates for Rae Bareli or Amethi. The party’s hold over Rae Bareli has been debilitating, with declining vote offers in later races in spite of progressive wins. This has raised concerns for the Congress, particularly with compelling neighborhood pioneers like Rae Bareli joining the BJP.
