US Readout Confirms PM Modi September Visit, Omits Bangladesh Discussion
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States in September at the same time as UNGA is taking its meetings in New York. This visit will follow the recent trips of Modi to Russia and Ukraine and will come ahead of the US Presidential elections in November.
The visit was announced during a telephone call on a range of issues between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Modi. The two leaders also discussed, among others, as mentioned in the White House statement, about the recent travel of Modi to Poland and Ukraine and the meetings of the UNGA.
Modi is expected to attend the High-Level Week which would kick off with the ‘Summit of the Future’ on September 22-23. He would address the General Debate at the UNGA on September 26.
This would be an engrossing moment as it will be Obama’s last address as President and also PM Modi is expected to host a mega Indian community event in New York on September 22.
Key Discussion Points When the two leaders spoke, there were expressions of concern about the situation in Bangladesh, emphasizing restoring law and order and ensuring the safety of minorities, especially Hindus. However, the US readout failed to mention Bangladesh specifically.
Speaking on Ukraine, Modi updated Biden on his visit just concluded and reiterated India’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy for the realization of peace and stability. Biden praised Modi for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine and for standing by Ukraine in its humanitarian needs, as well as in the matters of its energy sector.
Modi thanked Biden for his being forthrightly enthusiastic about the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, anchored, particularly based on democratic values and strong people-to-people connections.

The two leaders noted the effective stride achieved in the relationship and expressed their commitment to further expand cooperation in multilateral platforms, most notably the Quad.
The conversation between the two leaders was intended to highlight the importance of the partnership and of ongoing cooperation for mutual benefit to each country, and also to have a positive impact on world affairs.
