US Army Veteran Drives Truck Into Crowd on Bourbon Street, Killing 15 in New Year’s Tragedy
At least 15 people were killed and 35 injured on New Year’s Day when a suspected terrorist crashed a pickup truck into a busy Bourbon Street. According to security camera footage, partygoers rushed to flee as the truck sped through the French Quarter, a well-known tourist destination.
Authorities called the suspect, U.S. Army veteran Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a “terrorist.” To connect the incident to the extremist organization, the FBI verified that they had discovered an ISIS flag inside the car. Online videos show the white Ford pickup vehicle flying an ISIS flag driving past Canal Street and then turning sharply into Bourbon Street, which sparked the destructive outburst.

The incident was denounced as “despicable” by President Joe Biden, who disclosed that Jabbar had posted videos pledging loyalty to ISIS hours previously. Alethea Duncan, an FBI agent, has warned that Jabbar might not have acted alone and that the FBI and local authorities are conducting a manhunt for possible collaborators. The importance of the inquiry was emphasized by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, who confirmed, “We’re hunting some bad people down.”
