Urmila Matondkar Files for Divorce from Mohsin Akhtar Mir; Reports Suggest Separation Not Mutual

Reportedly, actress Urmila Matondkar has filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, businessman Mohsin Akhtar Mir. A source at a Mumbai court told Hindustan Times that Urmila has taken steps to legally end their marriage.

The insider did not say why it was over but did reveal this decision seems one-sided. “After a lot of deep thought, Urmila has decided to call it off with Mohsin. She went ahead and filed for a divorce in court,” they said, adding without elaborating further, “We don’t know yet what led them to take such a step but can confirm it was not mutual.”

Urmila and Mohsin got married on February 4, 2016, in a secret ceremony that received lots of attention from the media. People were intrigued by the fact that they were having an interfaith marriage and there is a decade between them—and now it seems as though there might be problems in paradise after nearly 10 years together.

Although Urmila has always been famous, Mohsin is not so well-known: he works as both a model and businessman hailing from Kashmir state. The pair first crossed paths at the wedding of Manish Malhotra’s niece back in 2014; Malhotra is a designer who has dressed Bollywood stars and even worked on some of their films.

Their wedding was a very private event with only close friends and family present (including Malhotra). However, afterwards they went to Amritsar’s Golden Temple, where, according to Islamic law, they exchanged vows again. It was reported that since then Mohsin has stopped trying to make it big in acting and has started doing something else full-time, which is making clothes—but he has never said anything about this himself in public. At current, neither person has said officially if rumors about them splitting up are true or false.
