TMC Boycotts ABP Ananda, Republic, and TV9 Over ‘Anti-Bengal Propaganda’; BJP Claims Move Stifles Free Speech
AITC has announced a three-channel boycott: ABP Ananda, Republic, and TV9, accusing them of “constant anti-Bengal agenda-driven propaganda”.
AITC has decided not to send its spokespersons to ABP Ananda, Republic, and TV9 due to their continuous anti-Bengal narrative,” the Trinamool Congress said in a statement on X.
The party accused these channels of pandering to the “Zamindars of Delhi” over the investigations and enforcement actions facing the promoters and companies which promoted these channels.
The AITC further called upon the people of West Bengal not to get misled by any person masquerading on those platforms as a supporter or sympathizer of the party and stated that such individuals were not responsibles representatives of the party.
It said the people of Bengal have unequivocally rejected what they termed “unholy nexus” and always chose to side with “truth over propaganda.”
Countering that, the BJP slammed the AITC’s decision as a reflection of the party’s dictatorial tendencies and opposition to free speech.
On X, the BJP posted: “The TMC’s decision to boycott TV9, Republic, and ABP Ananda shows their intolerance for free speech and frustration in facing the truth. This is nothing about principles but about avoiding uncomfortable scrutiny.
This boycott comes after a recent controversy by AITC MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. During a television debate, Dastidar had uttered some controversial comments over the medical education system, saying that in her times girl students used to get marks by compromising with the teaching doctors.

Her comment was condemned across the medical fraternity, and even her suspension was demanded from the Indian Medical Association. Dastidar later issued a formal apology for her comments; she is an alumnus of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
