Tim Paine’s Bold Advice to Gambhir: Dhruv Jurel’s ‘Staggering’ Potential Ahead of India vs Australia Test Series

Tim Paine’s Bold Advice to Gambhir: Dhruv Jurel’s ‘Staggering’ Potential Ahead of India vs Australia Test Series

India has not yet finalized its starting lineup for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opening against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth. This is anticipated following a rigorous two-week training camp at the WACA that begins on Tuesday. However, former Australian Test captain Tim Paine has voiced his strong opinion and recommended that Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir include wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel.

In light of his recent observations of Jurel during Australia A’s and India A’s second unofficial Test match on the difficult Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) pitch, Paine has made this recommendation. Despite playing little in India’s last two home series, Jurel impressed the former Australian captain with scores of 80 and 68, displaying technique on a lively surface.

Astonished by Jurel’s performance, Paine even stated in an interview with SEN Tassie that he would be “staggered” if Jurel weren’t in India’s starting lineup. In a few Test matches for India, there is a man who has held wickets. According to Paine, Dhruv Jurel averages 63 runs from three games. “I would be shocked if he didn’t play in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after watching him bat against Australia A despite being a keeper. He scored one of the best 80s I’ve ever seen.

Jurel might be a player to keep an eye on in Australia this summer, Paine added. “I believe that many Australian fans would be impressed by him. It will be difficult to compete against players like Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins, but he appears to have the skills necessary to succeed at this level,” he continued.

Jurel’s Case for a Comeback

Dhruv Jurel, who is only 23, made a spectacular debut in international cricket earlier this year, defeating England by hitting 190 runs in four innings and winning Player of the Match in Ranchi. However, Jurel was unable to participate in the current series against Bangladesh and New Zealand due to the return of Rishabh Pant to the format. Jurel and KL Rahul were flown to Australia to participate in the India A series after India’s top order faltered in a 0–3 thumping by New Zealand. Jurel’s tenacious efforts generated talks about his possible inclusion in the India XI for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Given Jurel’s recent performances and Paine’s support, Gambhir and the Indian team management must make a tough choice over the wicketkeeper-batsman’s comeback to the Test squad.
