Declare that the winners have returned home at last. On Thursday, Rohit Sharma’s Team India landed in New Delhi after leaving Barbados following Hurricane Beryl. After leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean, Rohit and company have come home. In the dramatic final held on Saturday at Kensington Oval in Barbados, Rohit’s Team India defeated South Africa by a margin of seven runs, ending the lengthy wait for an ICC trophy.
The Indian squad took off from Grantley Adams International Airport yesterday on a charter aeroplane headed for Delhi. In Barbados, a category-four hurricane left members of the Indian squad stuck for three days. At 4:50 a.m. local time, Air India’s special charter aircraft, known as Air India Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC), departed from the Caribbean island and landed in the country’s capital at roughly 6:20 a.m. (IST) today. The aircraft is named after the winning squad.
After Hurricane Beryl delayed the Indian squad’s departure, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) prepared a charter jet for the players, support personnel, players’ families, board executives, and members of the travelling media group. Indian journalists who were stranded in Barbados boarded the same flight as BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah, according to vice-president Rajeev Shukla of the BCCI.
