Tanushree Dutta Reveals #MeToo Accused Offered Her Film in 2023 to ‘Change Image’ | Exclusive Interview
Tanushree Dutta’s allegations against Nana Patekar for sexual assault on the set of their film Horn Ok Pleassss sparked the #MeToo movement in 2018, which completely changed the Hindi film business. This crucial point made it possible for a great deal of other ladies to share their stories. But six years later, it’s hard to say whether the movement has actually changed the industry in a significant way.
Even with the early momentum, Tanushree Dutta continues to be sidelined and hasn’t had the chance to return to the sets since her accusations. She draws attention to the difficulties encountered by other Malayalam performers, such as Parvathy Thiruvothu and Rima Kallingal, who were among the first artists to join the Women in Cinema Collective and have also seen a decline in employment chances as a result of their public statements.
Tanushree disclosed in an exclusive interview with Showsha that she was contacted for possible collaborations by two people who had been accused of sexual harassment in the #MeToo movement. However, she turned down their offers since she didn’t want to create a bad precedent. She said, “Every single actor needs to make a small sacrifice for a cause.”
Tanushree related an event from December 2018 in which a well-known producer of successful blockbusters made an offer to her for a movie. Nevertheless, the project’s attached director declined the opportunity after being implicated in the #MeToo movement. Who is losing out on this deal? Me. I haven’t worked on a movie for a very long time,” she bemoaned.
Tanushree has attended brand events and made appearances, but she has stated that she would like to play leading roles in movies that center on the empowerment of women. Sadly, offers have been coming with requirements she was unable to meet. “I was targeted and my projects were sabotaged, even though I had signed some decent projects in between,” she said.
A possible comeback movie helmed by a Kolkata-based director was offered to her last year. She withdrew after learning that the filmmaker had also been accused during the #MeToo movement, even though she had initially been thrilled about the tale and the position. He had the chance to completely erase his past. He believed that if I was cast, it would be assumed that I was supporting him,” she said.
Tanushree was worried that taking on the post would imply that she supported the person who had been charged with wrongdoing. Although there was no evidence against him, the industry had accepted the woman’s story. She said, “If I made that movie, it would seem like me, the founder of #MeToo, was now defending an accused person.

She made a definite decision based on her father’s recommendations. “I was unable to commit to that movie.” When I really needed work, that’s when I made that sacrifice,” she thought. “If I can display such integrity and honor and make these small sacrifices, others should also do it to bring about some change,” said the actress, who is well-known for her parts in Bhagam Bhag and Aashiq Banaya Aapne. She also stressed the value of honor and integrity.
