Taj Mahal’s Main Dome Leaks After Heavy Rain in Agra: Viral Video Highlights Water Damage

Agra’s Taj Mahal recently faced minor issues due to the heavy rains that battered this city for the last three days. Heavy rain resulted in leaking from the main dome of this monument, besides partial inundation of the gardens. A video of the submerged garden went viral on Thursday, capturing the attention of tourists.

ASI superintending chief for the Agra circle Rajkumar Patel added, “The leakage is due to seepage but has not damaged the dome.” Patel said the condition of the dome was checked from inside with a drone camera and no damage was found.

Waterlogging has similarly haunted Agra because of the heavy rains, and its effects are visible on roads, crops, and even posh areas. Flooding on one national highway reportedly took place, adding to the problems of the city.

The Taj Mahal is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, built between 1632 and 1653 for Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his wife, Mumtaz Mahal.

This is a white marble model, universally famous for its special combination of Persian, Islamic, and Indian architectural styles, all mingled under one roof with eternal love, which already turns this building into one of the most admired in the world.

It was a national treasure and also formed a significant part of the tourism business in Agra that keeps hundreds of people employed. “The maintenance of the Taj Mahal means securing livelihoods dependent on tourism,” said Monika Sharma, a government-approved guide.
