‘Is This A Joke?’ Fans React to Suzuki Alto Gift for Arshad Nadeem After Paris Olympics Gold
A Suzuki Alto declaration as prize for the victory of Arshad Nadeem, who took home Pakistan’s gold medal in javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics by creating history with 92.97 meters for the country’s first gold since the 1984 Los Angeles Games, has brought out a Pakistani-American businessman, Ali Sheikhani, right into the social media storm.
The news of the Suzuki Alto gift, posted on social media by Pakistani activist Syed Zafar Abbas Jafri, went viral within no time. Though some appreciated the move, the overwhelming number of people turned to social media to bash the model chosen by Sheikhani, terming it too cheap a prize for the historic feat of Nadeem. Comments ranged from disbelief to sheer disdain that many mentioned a BMW or an Audi would have been more befitting of a gold medalist. “Is he serious or something?” one of the users commented, while another said, “This clearly is an insult to him.”
On the other hand, Nadeem’s family has also been in the news for the very special gesture. His father-in-law presented to him a buffalo, which is considered an honorable place for any culture. Further, Arshad Nadeem has been being rewarded by the government of Pakistan where, on one side, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a monetary prize of PKR 100 million, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan of 2 million, while the Sindh Chief Minister of 50 million.

Hailing from Khanewal, Punjab, Nadeem is from a lower middle-class family of eight siblings. Elated by the victory, he took to social media to share his elation over the win by stating that this gold medal of his was a “present from him to the entire nation on the occasion of Independence Day.”
