2024 Lok Sabha Elections: Renowned Economist Surjit Bhalla Predicts BJP’s Seat Count
The current Bharatiya Janata Party may perform better in the 2024 Lok Sabha election than it did in the 2019 elections, according to renowned economist and political analyst Surjit Bhalla. Surjit Bhalla, whose new book “How We Vote” explores the mindset of voters, said in an interview that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party may secure between 330 and 350 seats in the current general elections. The BJP won 303 of the 353 seats that the NDA won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress managed to win only 52 seats.
The figures indicate that they should be able to get 330 to 350 seats on their own. Surjit Bhalla was quoted as saying, “This is just the BJP, not including its alliance partners.” He further stated that, in comparison to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP would probably gain five to seven percent more seats. An election wave might occur. Every election can become a trend. The head economist did, however, add, “It may not be a wave election as well.
How many seats will the opposition get?
Surjit Bhalla predicts that the Congress will win 44 seats, or 2% fewer than it did in the 2014 elections. “The leadership of the opposition alliance is the issue. Leadership is important, but the economy is more important. Furthermore, they both support the BJP. In my opinion, it could be a contest if the opposition had chosen a leader with a broad appeal, or roughly half of Prime Minister Modi’s base of support, Surjit Bhalla told the news channel.
BJP’s south boost
According to Surjit Bhalla, the BJP might secure at least five seats in Tamil Nadu, a state in which it has traditionally performed poorly. “I won’t be shocked if the BJP picks up more than five seats in Tamil Nadu, out of all the areas. Perhaps one or two in Kerala,” he remarked.

‘BJP’s vote share in the south will increase’: PM Modi
In contrast to earlier polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed optimism that the BJP would receive a larger proportion of the vote in the south in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, coinciding with Surjit Bhalla’s interview. As you can see, our vote share has increased in Telangana, as Modi stated in an interview with Asianet News Network. In the aftermath of the 2019 parliamentary elections, the BJP emerged as the sole major party in the South. In terms of MPs, the BJP is the largest party. In my opinion, compared to the previous elections, the vote share will rise in the Lok Sabha elections of 2024. There will also be more seats.
