Sunil Gavaskar’s Candid Assessment: Rishabh Pant’s Return in IPL 2024
Batting icon Sunil Gavaskar thinks Rishabh Pant could need some time to restore his fluency when he plays professionally again in the IPL in 2024. Pant is going to play in his first competitive game since that horrific car tragedy in December 2022. The BCCI and NCA have deemed the wicketkeeper batter suited for the position. But Pant may need some time to acclimate back to the game; it won’t be an easy feat to return to his best right away. It’s going to be hard. However, Pant’s experience playing cricket is a plus. Thus, he has some experience. It can be difficult to bat with fluency, according to Gavaskar, who spoke to “Star Sports.”
After more than 14 months of a rigorous rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, Pant will be seen in a competitive match on the cricket pitch. Gavaskar went on to explain that a batter’s knee will respond better after recovering from an injury if he begins to bat more frequently throughout a game. “The pivoting that occurs when discussing a knee ailment. Although keeping wickets is challenging, the knee is also crucial during batting. Therefore, it’s possible that we won’t first see the same Rishabh Pant that we are accustomed to,” the maestro remarked.
Gavaskar continued, “Pant’s presence and his chatty nature also add to the entertainment quotient.” “To find a wicketkeeper like him who comments from behind the stumps, that’s full-on entertainment because there are a lot of wicketkeepers who would like to disturb your concentration by saying different things.” However, Rishabh Pant can say things that make the people he is speaking to laugh and enjoy themselves. However, they become less focused when enjoying it, isn’t that right? Then, his team has the advantage.”

Gavaskar said he was particularly excited to see Shubman Gill of the Gujarat Titans captain the team, as the gifted young player will be taking charge of an IPL team for the first time. “How he can manage the captaincy will be the most crucial factor. What effect will it have on his batting? Additionally, he mentioned a similarity between our initials—we are both SGs and if we go one step further, my initials are SMG and his name is Shubh-Man Gill.
