Stree 2 Smashes Box Office Records: Grosses ₹560 Crore Worldwide in Just 11 Days

Horror-comedy phenomenon Stree 2 continues its rampage at the box office, with records tearing off one after another, as it keeps the audiences entertained globally. With Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana the film’s prankster, it is making huge moolahs with a stellar gross of ₹560 crores at the global box.

On Monday, Maddock Films, the production house behind this Amar Kaushik directorial, made the announcement on Instagram.

The latest poster of the film read, “Stree 2 continues its historic run by becoming the highest-grossing 2nd weekend ever for a Hindi film! Thank you everyone for making this journey blockbuster and unforgettable. Book your tickets now.” Breakdown of the box office numbers read ₹474 crore gross from India, ₹85.5 crore from overseas markets. The movie has beaten its competitors by leaps and bounds at the box office, some of which are big releases like Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa. The latest from Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, Stree 2—a horrifying tale of Sarkata, a headless antagonist who prowls independent women’s voices in his backyard—culminates.

The first film, Stree (2018), was based on the concept that a female spirit enacts revenge upon the wrongdoers who wronged her in mortal life, and Stree 2 starts from there and takes this creepy universe to another level.

Director Amar Kaushik himself is astonished by the way the film is doing exceedingly well. “We had a party and enjoyed a lot. We were confident that the film is good but we did not expect it to get these big numbers.I am sleep-deprived. I barely slept so first I’ll sleep and then I’ll start thinking of my next movie,” said Kaushik.

Kaushik also shared details of the creative process around Stree 2 and how an almost two-and-a-half-year investment by the entire team had gone into fine-tuning the script. “We started working on it even before Bhediya. We were looking at how to take the Stree world forward and how one can collate everyone in a common pit,” he adds, making an exciting reference to the world of crossovers that includes cameos from big actors like Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan. With an engaging story, brilliant performances, and thriller episodes that take you to the edge of your seat, Stree 2 is not merely a sequel but a magnum opus which shall stand firm in the annals of the history of Bollywood.
