Six Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threat Emails: Second Incident in a Week

Six Delhi schools received bomb threats via email early Friday, prompting a multi-agency search of the buildings. This comes after at least 44 schools in the city received bomb threat emails on December 9; however, the authorities ultimately determined that the emails were hoaxes. Arvind Kejriwal, a former chief minister of Delhi and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), voiced alarm over the second bomb threat to target schools in a week, raising concerns about the possible effects on students and their education.

Bhatnagar International School in Paschim Vihar (4:21 am), Cambridge School in Shri Niwas Puri (6:23 am), DPS Amar Colony in East of Kailash (6:35 am), South Delhi Public School in Defence Colony (7:57 am), Delhi Police Public School in Safdarjung (8:02 am), and Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini (8:30 am) all called about the threat emails, according to a Delhi Fire Services official. Responding quickly, the police, fire department, explosives detection teams, and dog squads searched these areas thoroughly. Parents were also warned by authorities to keep their children at home or to pick them up if they had already arrived at school.

According to authorities cited by PTI, the threatening emails were received at 12:54 am and mentioned “sports day” and “parent-teachers meeting” events before warning that the schools would be subject to bomb attacks on Friday and Saturday. Madhavi Goswami, the principal of Cambridge School, discovered the email while doing her daily check and notified the police right away. She announced the day’s online classes and reassured parents that everything was under control. On social media, AAP leader Kejriwal brought up the matter once more after criticizing Delhi Police and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for previous threats. “How badly will it affect the children if this continues?” he said, emphasizing the gravity of repeated threats. What will become of their academic pursuits?

To guarantee the security of students and employees, Delhi Police verified that inspections and inquiries were under progress. After the school administration chose to send all of the pupils home, a guard at South Delhi Public School revealed that parents were requested to come back with their kids. Panic and bewilderment were caused on Monday when at least 44 schools in Delhi got an email alerting them to the presence of explosives on their property. Thousands of anxious students were promptly evacuated from the schools while classes were in session, and several campuses were thoroughly inspected by security personnel. After the search efforts yielded no incendiary devices, Delhi Police verified by Monday afternoon that the emails were a hoax. However, emergency response vehicles were positioned outside of key schools, and cordons were erected across the capital to increase security.
