Sikh Leaders Protest Outside Rahul Gandhi’s Residence Over US Remarks, Demand Apology
The Sikhs swarmed outside the residence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, staging a protest against his contentious remarks he had made during his address in the United States.
The protest was held outside Gandhi’s residence, led by BJP Delhi’s Sikh Prakoshth, and demanded that he apologize for comments regarding the Sikh community.
The Delhi police arrested BJP leader RP Singh along with several other Sikh leaders during the protest. Singh attacked Gandhi over his statement and said, “Rahul Gandhi should apologize.
He used his platform abroad to defame India by suggesting that Sikhs are not allowed to wear turbans or visit gurdwaras.”
The protesters carried placards and shouted slogans as they marched from Vigyan Bhawan towards the residence of Gandhi at 10 Janpath. The protesters were stopped by the police before they reached their destination.
The community members attacked Gandhi for ‘humiliating the Sikhs’ and also held the Congress responsible for the riots targeting the Sikh community in 1984.
The protest came after Gandhi recently said at Washington DC that the fight in India is to allow Sikhs to wear turban, kadas and visit gurdwaras with freedom. He said the RSS looks at some religions and communities as inferior.
Once in America, Gandhi had spoken before a congregation of Indian Americans where he made special appeal for the fight of religious freedom and equality.

He asked one of the Sikhs present, “What is your name, brother with the turban?” and then furthered by making clear that it was not a fight for the Sikhs alone but all religions.
