Shubman Gill Pays Tribute to MS Dhoni as India Faces England: ‘Entire India Misses Mahi’

Shubman Gill, in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), went back to his scoring ways unfazed by the outside clamor, making some vital runs against England led by Ben Stokes. Against the foreigners in the second Test in Visakhapatnam, India’s third batsman struck a game-changing century. The third Test saw Gill produce a brilliant knock to cap off India’s historic victory over England’s Bazballers at Rajkot, even without the services of Virat Kohli. At the pre-match news conference on Wednesday, Gill gave famous cricketer MS Dhoni a special mention, because Team India—minus Jasprit Bumrah—is arriving in Ranchi for the fourth Test. The country was still missing Dhoni, Gill told reporters a few days before the fourth Test match in Ranchi, even though his trophy-filled international career came to a close in 2020. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024, the well-known cricket star will resume playing competitively. The last Twenty20 match for Dhoni is anticipated to be the IPL 2024.

‘Entire India misses Mahi Bhai’: Shubman Gill on MS Dhoni

There is a great deal of sadness throughout India for Mahi Bhai. No matter where you play—in Ranchi or elsewhere—it makes no difference,” Gill stated to reporters. Fans and watchers of the game on social media took to Gill’s endearing remarks about Thala Dhoni immediately. In the 2019 Test match at the CSA International Stadium Complex, India defeated South Africa under the leadership of Dhoni, the beating heart of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). At the time, Dhoni was spotted encouraging Indian spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. Following India’s historic victory against the Proteas in a Test series that ended in a clean sweep in Ranchi, Dhoni also posed for a photo with former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri.

Gill talks about his expectations.

Regarding Gill’s performance in the current five-match Test series, the Asian giants’ top batsman is second only to opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in terms of runs scored. As Team India thrashed England to inflict its greatest defeat since 1934, Gill struck a magnificent 91 off 151 balls. In six innings against England, the 24-year-old has scored 252 runs for India. Living up to his own expectations is a bit of a challenge. To me, it doesn’t matter what outsiders think about all those things. However, the standards I held for myself left me feeling a little letdown,” Gill continued.
