Shops and Hospitals Torched, Internet Cut in Bahraich After Fatal Clash During Durga Idol Immersion

In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, tensions increased on Monday when violent occurrences during a Durga idol immersion procession killed 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra and injured multiple others. According to news agency ANI, authorities filed a First Information Report (FIR) and arrested at least 30 people about the violence that broke out in Mahasi’s Maharajganj neighborhood.

Protesters Ignite Chaos

Protesters burned many stores and cars in the region, as well as one hospital, despite increased security. A case has been filed against a guy named Salman, who is accused of firing shots from his home, which also serves as a shop, according to Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla.

As the parade moved through a predominantly Muslim neighborhood, a fight broke out between two groups, which turned violent and resulted in Mishra’s untimely death. According to Shukla, the procession was stopped multiple times as some criminals tried to cause chaos. Police have taken many individuals into custody and are actively looking for those implicated.

Law Enforcement Response

Police used tear gas and lathi charges on the demonstrators in an attempt to bring the peace back. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed Home Secretary Sanjeev Gupta and ADG Law & Order to arrive on the scene after District Magistrate Monika Rani inspected the impacted region.

Internet Services Suspended

Internet services were suspended throughout Bahraich to stop additional unrest and false information on social media.

Incident Details

It has been alleged that a dispute over loud music during the march on Sunday led to the violence. As a family member stated, Ram Gopal Mishra was shot and died in the hospital while taking part in the parade from Rehua Mansoor village. As a result of the incident, similar processions in other areas were canceled due to increased communal tensions.

Family Demands Justice

Ram Gopal’s family came to the streets with his body in a heartbreaking show of grief, calling for justice and rallying neighbors and family to support them.

Chief Minister’s Stance

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, has acknowledged the disturbances and promised severe punishment for anybody who incite violence in Bahraich. He instructed officials to enable the prompt immersion of idols and underlined that safety would be guaranteed for all communities.
