Sela Tunnel Inauguration: PM Narendra Modi Unveils World’s Longest Twin-Lane Tunnel

On Saturday, Premier Narendra Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and open the “Sela Tunnel,” the world’s longest twin-lane tunnel. Because the Prime Minister is involved in the “Viksit Bharat Viksit North East” program, the ceremony of inauguration is set to take place in Itanagar at around 10:30 a.m. A number of additional state-wide development initiatives, including the ₹10,000 crore UNNATI program, will also be introduced by PM Modi.

Sela Tunnel

All you need to know about the Sela Tunnel is:

  1. The Line Streets Association (Brother) made the ₹825 crore Sela Passage, which is situated at a rise of 13,000 feet. The undertaking comprises two passages: Tunnel 2 is a 1,595-meter twin-tube endless Tunnel 1 is 1,003 meters long. Also, two 8.6-kilometer streets are essential for the venture. With the greatest speed of 80 kmph, the passage is planned to deal with 2,000 trucks and 3,000 cars consistently.
  2. The tunnel is important because it will connect Tawang, which borders China, to the rest of the world in all weather. Additionally, it will save at least an hour’s worth of travel time to Tawang, enabling the quicker deployment of troops, equipment, and weaponry to forward areas close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  3. The tunnel, which is close to Sela Pass, was necessary because snowfall and landslides brought on by intense rains forced the Balipara-Charidwar-Tawang Road to stay blocked for a significant portion of the year.
  4. It is expected that the “Sela Tunnel” project will advance both the economic growth of the surrounding area and the security preparedness of the nation.
  5. The COVID-19 epidemic was one of the several factors that caused the project’s advancement to be delayed after Prime Minister Modi announced it in February 2019. The project’s completion has now drawn attention to India’s push for border infrastructure intended to close the gap with China.
