“Satyamev Jayate”: AAP Cheers Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail, BJP Stresses It’s Not an Acquittal
A beaming AAP celebrated the verdict, saying “Satyamev Jayate” on X, following the decision of the Supreme Court to grant Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal bail in the alleged excise policy scam. For the party, it was the judgment that proved the triumph of truth-perfectly contrasting from the BJP’s critical view of the issue.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, who also secured bail recently in the case, termed the verdict a triumph of honesty over alleged conspiracies by the BJP. “This decision once again proves that Arvind Kejriwal is amongst the most honest and patriotic politicians. BJP’s attempts to put him behind the bars were unjust. Today’s order has exposed their lies and underlined the integrity of our leadership,” said Sisodia.
Kejriwal was released after being granted interim bail in the related money laundering case. He was arrested by ED on March 21 and subsequently arrested by CBI on June 26 when already in ED custody.
On the other hand, the BJP joined the issue without wasting much time and underlined the fact that granting bail did not imply acquittal. “Granting bail does not mean acquittal. Kejriwal’s resumption of duties is an indictment of the charges against him,” says BJP MP Tejasvi Surya.
The Supreme Court has put many restrictions on Kejriwal by not allowing him to enter the Chief Minister’s Office or sign any official document on bail. This, according to BJP’s Amit Malviya, hints that there could be more legal hurdles ahead, thereby even leading to a possible conviction for Kejriwal.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia demanded Kejriwal’s resignation and termed the AAP chief as ‘bail wala CM’, not ‘asli CM’. Bhatia berated Kejriwal, who did not quit the post, for having lost moral strength. “The Supreme Court has given conditional bail, but Kejriwal is still an accused. The arrest was done legally and all the theories of illegality were rejected,” Bhatia said.

Some even interpreted the Supreme Court order as a tactical victory to AAP with the intent to lift party prospects in the forthcoming Haryana Assembly election, in which it has announced an all-out challenge to BJP and Congress in the region.
