Following Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under Smriti Mandhana’s leadership ending the team’s long title drought with a trophy haul in the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) final, Virat Kohli made an internet-breaking gesture. In addition to winning their first WPL title, RCB ended their 16-year trophy drought at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, defeating the Delhi Capitals by eight wickets.

Shortly after the thrilling victory, in which players like Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry masterminded the chase of 114, Kohli congratulated the captain of the RCB women’s squad via video chat. The gesture went viral on social media. As soon as the rest of the squad saw her dancing on the video chat, Kohli joined her. Perry then let forth a legendary Kohli response, overheard exclaiming, “V for Virat!” In the Indian Premier League (IPL), RCB advanced to three additional finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016. As the captain of the 2016 team, Kohli was a member of all three squads. He was therefore overjoyed with the accomplishment and later posted an Instagram story about winning the WPL title with the comment, “Superwomen.”

Virat Kohli begins preparations for IPL 2024.

To prepare for the IPL 2024 season, Kohli has joined the RCB men’s team. The last time we saw the former captain of India in action was during the home T20I series against Afghanistan. Later, after the birth of his second child, a baby boy named Akaay, he was unable to attend the entire five-match Test series against England.

Because of his low strike rate and inability to satisfy the format’s demands, rumors suggest that Kohli may not make the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in June. As such, the 17th season of the IPL will be a pivotal event for him. Although the rumor has not yet received an official response, Kohli will be keen to brush it aside and use IPL 2024 as a springboard for the ICC tournament. On March 22, RCB will play the first game of the season against the local team and reigning champion Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
