Since joining the team in Adelaide during the second Test, Rohit has only scored 19 runs in three innings throughout the current series. After yet another lackluster showing in Brisbane, Gavaskar told ABC Sports that if Rohit doesn’t perform well in the last two games, he may resign as Test captain. “There is no doubt in my mind that Rohit will have the chance to participate in the next games. However, if he doesn’t score any runs at the end, I have a sense that he will make the decision himself,” Gavaskar remarked.
Following R Ashwin’s unannounced retirement, Cricbuzz recently published a story on a possible change within the Indian Test team, which fueled more conjecture. A more comprehensive team revamp was hinted at by the article, which said that additional senior players may declare their retirement prior to the next World Test Championship cycle. “The Indian team is expected to transform soon, but it is difficult to determine how much of this decision is planned, voluntary, or subtly influenced,” the article stated.
