Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians Career in Jeopardy: Speculation Rises Over Release or Trade Amid LSG Interest
As everyone prepares for the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, speculation regarding Rohit Sharma’s future with the Mumbai Indians is rampant.
A lot of rumours that Mumbai would release Rohit Sharma or that he will choose to forego playing for Mumbai and enter the auction have gathered traction in recent days, as the IPL council has not yet decided on the precise regulations and dates of the auction prior to the super auction.
Aakash Chopra, a former cricket player for India, now believes that Rohit’s stay in Mumbai may be coming to an end.
Equations with Mumbai Indians seemingly went a little awry for Rohit since he was asked to step down as captain without a warning last December.
The reins were handed over to the allrounder Hardik Pandya. Incidentally, the move had triggered speculation about some disgruntlement in the camp and an apparent crack in the friendship between senior opener and Hardik.
Aakash Chopra reacted to the development on his YouTube channel. “Will he stay or will he go? It’s a big question. Personally, I don’t think he will stay,” Chopra said.
He was of the view that the franchise could well do away with Rohit much in advance of the auction or even trade him off to some other team. “I don’t have any insider information, but my gut feeling is that Rohit’s journey with MI might be over. If he’s not traded, he could very well be available in the auction.
There is a strong speculation that Rohit might join LSG. The owners of the franchise are reportedly eager to sign the T20 World Cup-winning captain.
However, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka has played down these speculations. “Does anyone even know if Rohit Sharma will be available at the auction?” Goenka asked. He admitted that while Rohit was on the LSG wishlist, the rumors of massive INR 50 crore bid for him are baseless.

Goenka elaborated, “Even if Rohit becomes available, we have to consider the entire team-building process.Spending half of our budget on one player would make it difficult to assemble a balanced squad.” He thus concluded that though every team may want to have top players, they need to be acquired based on resources and planning.
