Rishabh Pant Hilariously Guides Bangladesh Captain on Field Placement, Leaves Commentators in Splits | WATCH

Whenever Rishabh Pant plays a Test match, it is always entertaining, regardless of whether he is keeping wicket or not. He is famous for chatting non-stop when standing up to the stumps, but this sense of fun does not disappear when he goes to bat.

Often Pant will exchange a few lighthearted words with the opposition as he prepares to face deliveries. And so it proved once again on Saturday afternoon as India took on Bangladesh in their second innings of an ongoing game at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium: entering the fray with his customary ebullience was none other than ‘RP-17’.

Pant frustrated Bangladesh’s bowlers during Day 3 of his 12th Test by scoring an assertive fifty after opening with a steady 39.

He then lightened the mood further by advising opposition captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on field placements—and being listened to! “Brother, move one here,” he jokily said while indicating a berth on the leg side.

This amusing interaction brought back memories of a similar event during the 2019 World Cup, where MS Dhoni had suggested to Sabbir Rahman of Bangladesh that he move a fielder.

On that occasion, the bowler did so immediately without referring back to his captain at the time, Mashrafe Mortaza. Elsewhere Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill coasted to easy half-centuries as India reached 205-3 at lunch on day three, extending their overall advantage to 432.

The pair’s unbroken stand was worth 138 runs, meaning they had put on exactly that amount together for the fourth wicket. Pant, playing his first Test since 2022, responded from a low score in style: It was an innings full of well-crafted attacking shots, including some delightful strokes off-spinner Mehidy Hasan.

A particular highlight was when he reached 50 with consecutive fours from the bowler’s over; 88 balls had taken him to this point.

Pant started his innings carefully, steadily constructing his score before playing his characteristic shots with flair. The game changed when he hit Miraz for four just after the drinks interval; once he passed 50, the 26-year-old began to show off—but he got lucky later on. Shanto put down a catch off Shakib when Pant was on 72, and India went on to add another 124 runs before tea because of it.
