Ratnagiri Nursing Student Raped by Autorickshaw Driver After Drugged Drink: Protests Erupt

The 20-year-old nursing trainee has been the recent victim of a series of revolting incidents in the Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra, following close upon a similar tragedy that hit Kolkata.

The girl, found in an injured condition and now undergoing treatment, was allegedly raped by an auto-rickshaw driver who had first filled her drink with sedatives.

The incident has led to massive outrage across Ratnagiri, with nursing professionals, residents, and even their hospital colleagues blocking traffic in demand of justice.

Officials have promised quick action against the culprit and have appealed to the protesters to be calm.

The driver offered her a spiked bottle of water on the way home from the college. She lost consciousness, after which the suspect reportedly took her to an isolated area and raped her.

After a while, she regained her consciousness and informally reported the incident to her family on the phone. Meanwhile, the victim has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment while the police search for the driver.

The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata was the scene of a shocking crime where a doctor was killed after being raped. Said to have done the crime is Sanjay Roy, the prime accuse in the case who visited the hospital.

He, as the reports suggest, did the crime by entering into the Seminar Hall where the doctor was resting. Recently, he confessed to doing the crime while on a lie-detection test.

Reports say that Roy was drinking with a male friend before the incident and that he had molested a woman on the street. He had also visited red-light areas in Kolkata with a friend and made indecent demands towards his girlfriend.

CBI has painted Roy as a man with a grotesque porn addiction and predatory in nature.
