Ranjeet Reveals Jaya Bachchan Replaced Parveen Babi in ‘Silsila’: ‘She Was Very Upset

In the 1981 film Silsila, Parveen Babi, Rekha, and Amitabh Bachchan played the lead roles; however, Jaya Bachchan subsequently replaced Parveen Babi. Veteran actor Ranjeet revealed this. During an interview with ANI, Ranjeet talked candidly about his relationship with Parveen Babi, expressing her disappointment over her casting in the well-known movie. In January 2005, Parveen Babi departed from us.

“Parveen was my dear buddy, but she was alone. She was a stunning woman. She was always grinning, and because of her teeth, we used to call her “fawada” (spade). She used to cry a lot and be extremely upset. “Kya hua (what happened), Parveen?” I asked her. We were in Kashmir, and since it’s true, I don’t mind quoting. Parveen Babi was the initial heroine of the film Silsila, but she was asked to step down. And instead of casting Parveen and Rekha in the movie due to a gimmick controversy, they cast Rekha and Jaya Bhaduri.”

The Prem Pratigyaa actor also talked about his friendly relationship with the late Sanjeev Kumar, saying the two used to get together every evening. “Everyone has a spending limit. If I wanted something but couldn’t afford it, I would still take it, even if I had to take out a loan. He wasn’t like that. He used to live on Pali Hill.
