Ramesh Bidhuri’s Candidature Under Scrutiny: BJP Considers Replacement Ahead of Delhi Elections
Ramesh Bidhuri, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has caused controversy with recent comments that criticize Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. The outcry has sparked discussions inside the party regarding running a female candidate in his place for the next Delhi assembly elections. At least two internal meetings have been conducted to discuss “shifting or canceling” Bidhuri’s bid, according to The Indian Express. In South Delhi, Bidhuri, a three-time MLA and two-time MP to the Lok Sabha is regarded as a Gujjar strongman. According to a BJP source, Rameshji was scolded by Naddaji within minutes for his remarks on Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, not just about Atishi.
Remarks Spark Party Debate
Bidhuri, who is running from Atishi’s Kalkaji seat, made comments about the local road conditions, which sparked the dispute. He said, “Just as we improved roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all roads in Kalkaji as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks.” Additionally, Bidhuri made a personal shot at Atishi by bringing up her choice to choose Singh as her surname instead of Marlena. “Marlena has become Singh,” he said. She transformed her father. Atishi stated that her father is Vijay Singh, a former professor at Delhi University, after dropping her last name in 2018.
Past Controversies Resurface
Bidhuri has already experienced criticism. He disparaged Danish Ali, a former member of the Bahujan Samaj Party who eventually joined the Congress, less than two years ago during a Lok Sabha debate on Chandrayaan-3. He apparently lost both a possible Union Cabinet post and a Lok Sabha ticket for the general elections in 2024 as a result of the episode.

Possible Replacements Discussed
Although these discussions are still in the early phases, sources indicate that the BJP is considering several possible female candidates to succeed Bidhuri. This move demonstrates the party’s attempt to control the controversy before the assembly election on February 5. Bidhuri’s candidacy was declared by the BJP on Saturday, but his contentious comments the next day caused serious political fallout and raised concerns about his future in the party’s election plan.
