Rajkummar Rao Surprised as Stree 2 Crosses ₹500 Crore Worldwide: “Way Above Our Expectations”

At the global box office, Stree 2 reaped ₹500 crore—a film featuring horror-comedy, Rajkummar Rao, and Shraddha Kapoor. The movie has been creating the most predominant stand until then in 10 days.

‘Glad and super elated’

Rajkummar said on the unexpected win of the films, “We were confident that Stree 2 would find its audience, especially since Stree 1 was so loved. We all know that the original had a huge fan base, and I was a part of it too. But these numbers came in as a huge surprise to us beyond our imagination truly. We are overwhelmed and thankful to this extent that such a content-driven film as Stree is being able to see these happy days.”

‘I have come from nowhere’

As he reflects on his journey, Rajkummar starts off saying, “There’s so much gratitude. I have been blessed by God and received tremendous love from the audience. I’ve come from a really humble background, with no money around me while growing up. I am one of the audiences, and many people feel that my success is their own, which feels overwhelming.

He also talked about the travails of his early career when, in Delhi’s theatre scene, 70 kilometers or so on the cycle to save on bus fare. Having moved to Mumbai post-FTII, Film and Television Institute of India, Rajkummar was struggling to survive in the expensive city with no connection or any clear idea about where to begin.

Stree 2 box office

The stars in Stree 2 have reunited the original star cast, with Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana. Releasing over Independence Day 2024, the sequel turned out to be a huge portion-sizer, collecting ₹505 crore overall the globe that includes ₹426 crore from India and ₹78.5 crore from overseas.

Plot and More Stree 2 will abandon the female ghost yet introduce a new villain, Sarkata, a headless figure associated with its title character. Sarkata is shown riding his reign of terror, disturbingly focusing on bringing dependent voice women to attack. Striking at the crux, he raises and breaks the statue of Stree protecting Chanderi in a key turn in the movie.
