Rajkummar Rao Reflects on Growth and Challenges in His Role as Srikanth: “Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone is Key”

Rajkummar Rao has, over the years, carved his niche as one of the most all-rounded actors in Bollywood and stands out for his intense yet nuanced performance. With Stree 2, his recent success took it forward while badly bruising the box office records. However, the journey hasn’t been easy for Rajkummar. In an interaction with News18, the actor revealed to himself the uneasiness and apprehension he had to take on the role of Srikanth in this biopic directed by Tushar Hiranandani.

Rajkummar confessed that taking the decision to play the role of Srikanth, the visually impaired industrialist who overcame incredible odds to become successful, was difficult. He confessed, “When I signed on Srikanth, I was very scared about how to do it, how to make it different, something new for myself and the audience. But that’s where I think you explore; you be desperate to look out for ideas because you want to be sure before starting a new film.”.

For me, growth means to try and go out to explore new things in life—not just staying in that same comfort zone.

Srikanth, based on the life of industrialist Srikanth Bolla- who despite being visually impaired went on to graduate from MIT and employing unskilled and differently-abled people has been receiving good reviews from audiences as well as critics. Box office wise, the film has been doing decent as the collections remained steady during its first week despite all the appreciation.

Rajkummar’s performance as Srikanth has been much talked about, with several people appreciating his depth and authenticity in this character. Alaya F, Jyothika, Sharad Kelkar are other important characters in the film, while Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Nidhi Parmar Hiranandani have bankrolled it.

Rajkummar’s reflections on growing and stepping out of his comfort zone are testaments to the dedication of being an actor. With his continuous quest to take up newer roles that challenge him further, there is no doubt that audiences will witness a lot more revolutionary performances coming from this star.
