Rajkummar Rao Applauds Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s “Animal” and Reflects on the Success of “Stree 2”

Versatile and acting gene person Rajkummar Rao had a candid conversation about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbusting film Animal with News18. The Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri-starrer had been an important talking point ever since its release in December 2023. While criticized for excessive violence and controversial themes all through, “Animal” has turned out to be a massive hit and collected approximately Rs 800 crore globally.

Now, the inimitable Rajkummar Rao has shared his views on the film Animal and its impact. He, himself, comes with a slate of hit performances. He said he was in awe of Sandeep Vanga and his way of telling a story, which was absolutely new for him, refreshing, gut-wrench.

“Talk about films that are, of course, just for entertainment—one says ‘apna dimaag ghar par chorh ke aao’—or that sort of comedy. Without a doubt, there must be numerous genres. So, I really enjoyed watching Animal. The music and the way it has been made, it’s beautiful. I like the way Vanga sir tells stories—I think he has the most new voice of storytelling—which I really enjoyed,” said Rajkummar.

He highly appreciated Ranbir Kapoor’s acting in the film. Naseer said that he had entered the theater prepared for the film, since he had grasped from the title that the movie’s theme had this word. “I knew what I was getting into. The film is not called ‘An Ideal Man’, it’s called Animal. So I was going in to watch an ‘animal’ and not somebody I would aspire to be,” he added. In the same conversation, the actor shared his thoughts about the success of his own film, Stree 2. The film has turned out to be a big blockbuster, and it has really satisfied the entire actor.

He accepted the importance of box office numbers: “These numbers… they mean that those many people have seen the film. Whatever the number is, it means people have made an effort to go to the theatre to watch your film. That is very gratifying for me. [It means] lakhs of people have gone to theatres rooting for you, whistling during a particular scene where you were performing. That is a very humbling experience for me.” As Stree 2 courts conversations and Animal continues to get its due, Rajkummar Rao’s reflection is an insight into the mind of that rare breed of an actor who truly values a story as an art that connects with the audience.
