Rajinikanth Reveals Amitabh Bachchan’s Financial Struggles: ‘Bollywood Was Laughing at Him’
The release of Vettaiyan is highly anticipated by fans as it marks the return of Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth sharing screen space after almost 30 years.
At the grand audio launch in Chennai, Rajinikanth paid an emotional tribute to Amitabh, talking about the senior actor’s resilience and incredible journey.
Rajinikanth recalled Amitabh’s financial troubles from the past, saying: “When Amit ji was producing films, he incurred huge losses. There was a time he couldn’t even pay his watchman and his house in Juhu went into public auction.
Bollywood wallahs were laughing that your downfall has come. The world waits for your downfall. But within three years he did all the ads, earned through KBC, not only bought back his Juhu home but also three other houses on the same street! At 82, he works 10 hours daily. He is a true inspiration.”
Rajinikanth also pointed out Amitabh’s success was entirely self-made, saying: “Amit ji’s father was a well-known writer but he didn’t use his family’s influence to get ahead.”
He also spoke about an incident when Amitabh had a near-fatal accident: apparently upon hearing the news while she was overseas, Indira Gandhi flew straight back home to India.
At that time the public came to know Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh were childhood pals.In ‘Vettaiyan,’ while details of Rajinikanth’s role have been kept under wraps, Amitabh will be seen as a character called Sathyadev.
The film boasts a cast full of stars including Ritika Singh playing Roopa, a cop; Dushara Vijayan as Saranya; Manju Warrier portraying Thara; Rana Daggubati acting as Natraj; and Fahadh Faasil playing Patrick.
