Rahul Gandhi Slams Madhya Pradesh Attack: ‘Audacity of Criminals Reflects Government Failure’

Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the ‘barbaric attack’ on two Indian Army officers and the alleged gangrape of their female friend in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district.

The Congress leader termed it a “shame for the entire society” while he deplored how effective law and order were found wanting in states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The two Army officers, aged 23 and 24, had gone on a picnic in Indore when unidentified men attacked them. A female friend accompanying the Army officers was raped in the attack.

Taking to Facebook, Gandhi said, “The violence against two army soldiers and the rape of their female companion in Madhya Pradesh is a shame on our society.

The law and order situation in BJP-ruled states is almost non-existent and the government’s neglect towards the rising crimes against women is deeply concerning.

He pointed out that audacity of the criminals is the direct result of the failure of the administration in creating an insecure environment. This atmosphere restricts freedom and aspirations of women in India.

He went on to impress, “Both society and the government need to reflect seriously—how long will they continue to ignore their responsibility to protect half of the country’s population?”
