Rahul Gandhi Taken into Custody Briefly in Defamation Case, Secures Bail, Says Lawyer
The Sultanpur court granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday in connection with BJP politician Vijay Mishra’s 2018 defamation lawsuit against the Congressman for his comments criticizing Home Minister Amit Shah. According to his attorney, the court detained him for thirty to forty-five minutes. Santosh Pandey, who represents Rahul in court for bail, stated, “He (Rahul Gandhi) surrendered in court today.” After he turned himself in, the court detained him for thirty to forty-five minutes. His bail application was then made and approved by the court. The additional date is still pending. He is innocent, according to his attorney, and he hasn’t uttered anything disparaging.
According to Pandey, if there is enough proof against Rahul Gandhi, he may face a maximum sentence of two years in prison. Judge Yogesh Yadav granted bail to Rahul following the completion of bail bonds. Congressman Rahul Gandhi was charged on May 8, 2014, with making derogatory comments about Shah at a press conference in Bengaluru. A defamation suit was consequently filed against Gandhi. Gandhi made the statement when Amit Shah was the head of the BJP. In an assault on the BJP, Rahul Gandhi stated that although the party professed to support morality and integrity in politics, its president is “accused” in a murder case.

Mishra responded to the news by saying, “I was the BJP vice president when this incident happened. In Bengaluru, Rahul Gandhi charged Amit Shah with murder. I am a 33-year-old party employee, so I was deeply offended to hear these charges. Through my attorney, I made a complaint about this, and it went on for over five years. “The largest party in the nation is the BJP. “It is not justified to call its president of the time a murderer,” he continued.
