PM Modi’s US Visit: A Diplomatic Push to Break Russia-Ukraine Deadlock and Promote Global Peace
When Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the United States from September 21-23, there will be a lot of important events – he’ll take part in bilateral meetings and meet with other world leaders, talk to CEOs and chat with members of the Indian community.
But above all else his main job while he’s there will be to help keep Europe peaceful. This means he’ll use talks and discussions to try and end fighting between Russia Ukraine which has also had a big effect on countries in Asia, Africa and South America.
PM Modi is so concerned about this problem that during just one term (four-year period) as leader again starting from end May 2019 until now early June 2022—he’s already been twice before! This makes him different from many international politicians because most have not sat down face-to-face both with Russian President Vladimir Putin plus Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Italian PM Giorgia Meloni believes too – she thinks there is good chance India might be able to help sort things out.
India has a distinctive role in worldwide diplomacy. It is not part of NATO, nor does it have a secret agenda. The country simply wants peace in Europe – which is why the warring parties trust India to mediate.
PM Modi has been active behind the scenes trying to end the conflict: talking regularly with Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin; he even spoke to the Russian leader after visiting Ukrainian capital Kyiv recently.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval went from there to see Putin for an update on India’s mission.Despite these efforts we don’t yet know New Delhi’s official peace plan.
Before Modi’s trip to Ukraine though, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said government officials are working with partners worldwide to achieve just that (speak more about this).
What we do understand however from listening carefully throughout all speeches made by Indians involved in this process up till now is they feel very strongly no one should be fighting each other during current times or that anyone can “win” through battle alone.
During his first visit stateside since being re-elected for a third term — expect him make time while at Delaware’s White House guesthouse meeting leaders from Australia, Japan and USA plus discuss war with Russia in detail too: insights gained talks held separately by him both sides may well help shape discussions especially those focusing effects upon poorer countries ‘Global South’.
There is some talk that the QUAD nations’ joint language on the war could be changed to incorporate Prime Minister Modi’s perspective – including worries about what might happen to developing countries.
On this trip it is expected not just for him to see Mr Biden but also (about a month later) meet Russian leader Putin in Kazan; they would gather anyway along with other heads of government at the BRICS summit.

The Indian PM will speak among world leaders at the UN-sponsored Summit For Democracy whose overall theme is ‘Working together for a better tomorrow’; there his address may well involve references from visits to both Russia and Ukraine where recent efforts have been made towards ending ongoing conflicts – something which has not gone unnoticed worldwide including among those who criticised an earlier trip solely to Moscow.
With further stops planned in Kiev as well active involvement peace talks thereabouts too, it seems clear Narendra Modi wants people back home never forget they play a positive role brokering deals between warring states!
