PM Modi Slams Opposition: ‘Those Who See a Messiah in Sambhaji Maharaj’s Killer Undermine Maratha Pride’
During a rally in Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the opposition of insulting Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy as the son of Maratha legend Chhatrapati Shivaji. Speaking in the election-bound state, Modi accused opposition politicians of “seeing their messiah” in those responsible for Sambhaji Maharaj’s death, so undermining Maharashtra’s pride and identity. “Those who oppose Sambhaji Maharaj’s name, who see a messiah in the man responsible for his death, are they not anti-Maratha pride and Maharashtra itself? “How can Maharashtra accept such individuals?” Modi proclaimed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, which the Mahayuti government renamed to honor the Maratha warrior, fulfilling Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s long-held wish.
Modi also attacked the Congress, claiming that the party has long opposed reservation measures and is more concerned with dividing society than fostering progress. “Congress has long viewed reservation as antithetical to the country and merit. Today, they still cannot tolerate an OBC Prime Minister,” he said, adding that previous Congress advertising circulating online demonstrate the party’s persistent attitude. He also chastised the Congress and its allies for allegedly wanting to resurrect Article 370 and build a separate constitution for Jammu and Kashmir.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated Modi’s remarks in Dhule the day before, referring to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) as a “Aurangzeb fan club.” He chastised Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that Thackeray had abandoned his father Bal Thackeray’s values by supporting parties opposed to the renaming of Aurangabad, the construction of the Ram temple, and the repeal of Article 370.

“There are two clear sides for Maharashtra’s people—the Aghadi, which we see as the ‘Aurangzeb fan club,’ and Mahayuti, which upholds the principles of Shivaji Maharaj and Veer Savarkar,” declared Shah. The Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
