PM Modi Launches BJP’s Poll Campaign from Kharge’s Home Turf Kalaburagi Today

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially open the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Lok Sabha election campaign, beginning in Kalaburagi, the home constituency of Congress National President M Mallikarjun Kharge in Karnataka. On Saturday afternoon, at around 2:00 pm, Prime Minister Modi will travel to the southern state to speak at a large gathering at Kalaburagi’s N V Ground. In the 2019 general election, Kharge ran from Kalaburagi, the Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency, but was defeated by Umesh Jadhav of the BJP. After several decades in politics, this was his first electoral defeat. Once more, the saffron party has chosen to field Jadhav from the seat, upending the Congress party’s long-standing hegemony.

The ancient party is in discussions to field its businessman son-in-law, Radhakrishna Doddamani, instead of Kharge following his defeat in 2019. “The Rajya Sabha’s hands are full with the Leader of the Opposition. He must cooperate with INDIA bloc partners in addition to overseeing party matters at the national level, a senior party leader stated in the matter. Beginning with the south, PM Modi will launch the BJP’s Lok Sabha election campaign on March 18, visiting Shivamogga, the home district of party stalwart B.S. Yediyurappa.
