Pakistan Drops to 8th in ICC Test Rankings After Series Loss to Bangladesh

This was the first time in history that Pakistan was relegated to eighth position in the ICC Test rankings after their defeat against Bangladesh in a Test series. That defeat also means that for the first time since 1965, Pakistan has recorded the lowest rating points.

Meanwhile, in the recent series at Rawalpindi, Pakistan lost the first Test by 10 wickets and the second one by six wickets. “Pakistan dropped two places in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings to eighth position after this surprise home series loss to Bangladesh,” added ICC.

Pakistan was ranked sixth before the series but has slipped below the West Indies to eighth with 76 rating points now following the back-to-back losses. It is their lowest since 1965, aside from when they were not ranked owing to insufficient matches.

While an imposing chase of 185 in the second Test – the third-highest successful chase in Pakistan by any visiting team – Bangladesh haven’t moved up the rankings. They’ve gained 13 rating points but remain at ninth, which is below Pakistan.

The series win, though, has significantly bettered Bangladesh’s standing in the WTC cycle 2023-25. They are now placed fourth in the table behind India, Australia, and New Zealand. Bangladesh next play against India in a two-match Test series starting in Chennai on September 19.

With 45.83 percentage points from three wins and three losses in six Tests, Bangladesh have bolstered their standing in the WTC rankings where teams fetch 12 points for a Test win, four for a draw and six for a tie.
