Oscars 2024: Sparkles, Strong Silhouettes, and Barbie Pink Reign on the Red Carpet

Oscars 2024: On Sunday, the Oscars red carpet saw a lot of sparkles, powerful silhouettes, and pink hues reminiscent of Barbie. Sandra Huller, the “Anatomy of a Fall” best actress nominee, and actresses Eva Longoria and Rita Moreno also wore black gowns with daring necklines. Cynthia Erivo wore a green gown with voluminous cap sleeves and a train running down the back.

Nominee Emma Stone for Best Actress for “Poor Things” wore a pale green dress with a strapless, flared bodice. The nominee for Best Supporting Actress for “Barbie,” America Ferrera, wore a glittering pink, form-fitting gown. In addition, women who were nominated for Best Actress in “Killers of the Flower Moon” (Lily Gladstone), Best Supporting Actress in “Nyad” (Annette Bening), and co-star Jodie Foster were also fond of Midnight Blue.

A few men defied convention as well. While many chose to wear the traditional black tuxedo, a few chose an alternative look. Nominee Colman Domingo for best actor for “Rustin” donned a silver button tuxedo with a brooch on his bow tie. Ryan Gosling, the contender for “Barbie”‘s best-supporting actor, sported a suit without a tie and sparkling trim. Nominee for best actor, “Maestro” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson showed up without a tie and wearing a turquoise, glossy suit. Bradley Cooper similarly eschewed the tie.

A handful of the women also went for pantsuits; Justine Triet, the best director contender for “Anatomy of a Fall,” selected a suit with sparkling lines. Red pins advocating for a ceasefire in Gaza were seen on actors Mark Ruffalo, songwriting siblings Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, and as an additional item on the carpet. Osage Nation performers, who are set to perform the best song nominee from “Killers of the Flower Moon,” arrived on the red carpet decked out in vibrant tribal attire.
