Opposition MPs Led by Rahul Gandhi Wave Constitution Copies as PM Modi Takes Oath | WATCH
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepared to take the oath of office as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha, opposition MPs led by Congressman Rahul Gandhi presented him copies of the Constitution. Similar greetings were extended to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Leaders of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad, Congressman Rahul Gandhi, and Trinamool politician Kalyan Banerjee occupied the front row in the opposition benches.
The INDIA group, which is made up of the Congress party and its pre-election allies, waged a fierce campaign against Prime Minister Modi, threatening to abolish the Constitution if the BJP is returned to power with a two-thirds majority. Political analysts speculate that statements made by certain BJP candidates and their slogan, “400 paar,” aided the opposition’s narrative. Rahul Gandhi declared that they were not at all comfortable with Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah undermining the Constitution.
In the Parliament complex, he told reporters, “We would not allow the attack on the Constitution that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah are doing.” Gandhi declared, “We will not stand for this attack.” On being asked if the opposition’s message was getting through to the public, the former president of the Congress responded, “Our message is reaching the public and no power can touch the Constitution of India and we will protect it.”

“Copy of the Constitution in hands, its values in hearts!” Gandhi wrote beside the video of their symbolic protest that they shared on social media. “India will defend it with all of its might; no power in the world can destroy it.” Monday marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s oath of office as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha, following his return to power earlier this month for a record third term. In the Lok Sabha, Modi has held three terms. He kept his seat in Varanasi, which he has been winning since 2014. He took the oath of office first, in his capacity as Leader of the House.
