Omar Abdullah’s Cabinet Passes J&K Statehood Resolution, PDP Questions NC’s Stand on Article 370

The Cabinet of Jammu and Kashmir, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has approved a motion calling for the Union Territory to regain its statehood. During Thursday’s first cabinet meeting, the resolution was accepted, according to official sources IANS said. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presided over this important meeting, which was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Sakeena Masood Itoo, Javaid Ahmad Dar, Satish Sharma, and Javed Ahmad Rana. The resolution’s draft has been drafted, according to IANS sources, and Chief Minister Abdullah will visit New Delhi in the next few days to deliver it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be urged to reinstate Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

Mehbooba Mufti’s People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member Waheed Para, however, voiced his displeasure with this action. Para described the resolution in an X post as a “ratification” of the Center’s 2019 decision to repeal Article 370. “No resolution on Article 370 and scaling down the demand to mere statehood is a huge setback,” he said, criticizing Omar Abdullah’s emphasis on statehood as a substantial divergence from the original demand for the reinstatement of Article 370.

Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, stayed upbeat and communicated positive thinking that Jammu and Kashmir would before long recover its statehood. He underscored his confidence in a good determination by referring to a High Legal dispute that is currently in progress and is expected to hear contentions for the reclamation of statehood in two months or less. On August 5, 2019, after the Central Government renounced Article 370, the previous territory of Jammu and Kashmir was rearranged into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In the political discussion of the locale, the reclamation of statehood keeps on being a crucial subject.
