Omar Abdullah on AAP-Congress Rift: “Should Wind Up INDIA Alliance If…”
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has expressed his worries over the INDIA coalition, highlighting the need for clarity on its goal and leadership. He proposed disbanding the opposition alliance if it had been created just for last year’s parliamentary election. As far as I can recall, the INDIA alliance had no time constraint,” the National Conference leader told ANI. The alliance’s leadership, agenda, and existence are all in doubt because no meetings are being planned. If it was only for the elections to the Parliament, they ought to stop it. Omar Abdullah made these remarks in answer to a query concerning the current Delhi Assembly elections, in which the AAP, BJP, and Congress are engaged in a three-way race. He insisted that the AAP, Congress, and other parties must plan independently against the BJP, even if his party is not involved in Delhi’s political disputes.
Initially praised as a unified front of the opposition, the INDIA coalition has come under growing criticism in recent months. Questions concerning the Congress’s leadership of the bloc have grown more pressing after the party’s electoral defeats. Some coalition members have even acknowledged Mamata Banerjee, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, as willing to head the alliance. Abdullah had already spoken to the leadership discussion by pointing out that the Congress’s national reach and legislative power made it an obvious choice for a leader. “There is a sense of disquiet because some feel the Congress is not doing enough to justify or maintain its leadership role,” he said, referring to the rising discontent among allies.

AAP and Congress officials have publicly attacked one another, revealing divisions within the coalition in the wake of the Delhi elections. While the AAP has claimed collaboration between the Congress and the BJP, Congress leaders have charged the AAP administration with corruption and ineptitude. The inability of the INDIA group to maintain a united opposition front has been questioned because to its uncertain future. Abdullah’s comments highlight how vital it is to have internal talks to rethink the alliance’s goals and approach.
