‘Jail or Jahannum’: Minister Outlines Centre’s Tough Stance on Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir
The state minister for home affairs, Nityanand Rai, clarified the government’s position on the current wave of terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, stating that anyone who engage in terrorist activities will face punishment in jail or jahannum (hell). The minister stated that the terrorists’ plans will fail and that their operations will soon come to an end in response to a follow-up question posed by Congress MP Pramod Tiwari.
According to Nityanand Rai, the Narendra Modi administration does not tolerate terrorism. He stated that 28 terrorists have been slain in the union area by security personnel in the last several days. “The Modi administration does not condone terrorism. Terrorism will be eradicated. The terrorists will either be imprisoned or executed. Rai stated, “I want to reassure the House.”
According to him, there were 2259 terrorist events in Jammu and Kashmir in July of this year, compared to 7,217 instances during the UPA’s administration. “These were uncalled for events. “While regrettable, the Opposition ought not to politicize this issue,” the minister stated. Rai reported to the House that 2,829 civilians and law enforcement officers died between 2004 and 2014. Since 2014, this figure has decreased by 67%. In addition, the number of terror occurrences has decreased by 69%.
“In Jammu and Kashmir, 28 terrorists have been slain in the past few days. The fact that some of our soldiers have perished while battling fires is heartbreaking. “There are far fewer dead soldiers than terrorists eliminated,” he declared. Two crore eleven thousand tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir in 2023. There’s peace again, which is why there are more visitors now,” he continued.
The minister reported that 2,11,24,674 visitors visited Jammu and Kashmir in 2023—an all-time high—and 1,08,41,009 tourists visited between January and June 2024. These numbers were followed by visits from 1,88,64,332 tourists in 2022, 1,13,14,884 tourists in 2021, and 34,70,834 travelers in 2020.

The Central government under Modi revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and divided the state into two union territories. The government claims that the decision has effectively managed terrorism. Nevertheless, the Opposition has cast doubt on the Centre’s assertions following the recent terrorist attacks.
