NCLT Admits BCCI’s Plea for Insolvency Proceedings Against Byju’s
The Bengaluru seat of the Public Organization Regulation Court (NCLT) conceded BCCI’s appeal looking for bankruptcy procedures against Byju’s. The BCCI had looked for the commencement of bankruptcy procedures against the ed-tech goliath over a supposed neglected levy of ₹158 crore under their sponsorship contract for the Indian cricket crew.
In September last year, BCCI applied to the Bengaluru seat of NCLT against Think and Learn Pvt Ltd, the parent organization of Byju’s overdue default on duty of nearly ₹160 crore. The case relates to a debate around the sponsorship privileges of the Indian cricket crew’s shirts, following which the court enlisted the matter for an additional conference on November 15.

At that point, Byju’s said it was in chats with BCCI to settle a forthcoming bankruptcy matter recorded against it in Bengaluru NCLT. The NCLT said in its organization, “It is expressed that the general notification was given to Byju’s via email dated 06.01.2023 and the default measure of ₹158 crore, barring TDS (charge deducted at source) as reflected in the solicitations connected.”
Byju’s had three key marking organizations: the BCCI, the ICC (Global Cricket Committee), and FIFA (League Internationale de Football Affiliation). These were up for recharging in 2023, yet they were not handled.
