Narendra Modi Thanks Elon Musk, Promises Strong Business Environment in India

The leader of the NDA in parliament and the incoming prime minister, Narendra Modi, thanked Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on Saturday for wishing him luck in the 2024 Indian general elections. In response to the billionaire’s well-wishes, Prime Minister Modi said that the country’s youthful population, stable democratic government, and uniform policies will maintain an investment-friendly business climate.

I appreciate your nice remarks, @elonmusk. All of our partners will continue to have access to a stable democratic political system, our smart young people, predictable policies, and a stable demographic,” he wrote in a post on X. Musk wished Modi well and discussed the future of his businesses in India three days after the results of the Lok Sabha were made public on Tuesday. “Congratulations @narendramodi on winning the biggest democratic elections in history! Anticipating my businesses to undertake fascinating projects in India,” he remarked.

After BJP Parliamentary Party leader Narendra Modi was chosen and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners filed their letters of support, President Droupadi Murmu named Modi as the prime minister-designate on Friday. Out of 543 parliamentary constituencies, the opposition’s INDIA group won 234 seats in the most recent elections, while the BJP-led NDA got 293 seats. There are numerous rumors that Musk intends to establish his first Tesla facility in India in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, or Gujarat. The carmaker’s possible $3 billion investment would coincide with India lowering import duties on some electric vehicles earlier this year for automakers that pledged to contribute at least $500 million.

Musk was planning to travel to India from April 20 to 22, but his visit was unexpectedly called off. He called off his trip due to important commitments at Tesla, but mentioned he intends to visit the country later in the year. Modi was commended for winning the elections by a number of notable businesspeople and world officials, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Joe Biden, and French President Emmanuel Macron, in addition to Musk.
