Munawar Faruqui Receives Threats from Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, Granted Security
A criminal group led by imprisoned mobster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is presently being investigated by the Mumbai police for his possible involvement in the murder of former minister Baba Siddique, has allegedly threatened stand-up comic Munawar Faruqui. Faruqui has been given security by the Mumbai Police in response to these dangers. According to police officials, the Bishnoi gang provided them with information about a possible danger to the comedian. Although the precise cause of the danger is still unknown, police are looking into it.
Hindu organizations have previously accused Faruqui of offending their feelings at one of his performances; he has continuously refuted these claims. After the police arrested three alleged gang members on Saturday night, barely hours after Siddique was shot in Bandra (East), this episode represents another instance of a celebrity being singled out by the Bishnoi syndicate.
A gunman who was connected to the murder of a gym owner in South Delhi last month—who was the target of both the Bishnoi gang and an affiliated criminal organization—was previously taken into custody by the Delhi Police. In August 2022, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act against the Bishnoi syndicate and its affiliates. According to investigations, the group has allegedly spread its “mafia-style criminal networks” over several Indian states.

These networks have been linked to some high-profile crimes, such as the May 2022 murder of well-known Punjabi artist Sidhu Moosewala and widespread extortion campaigns against professionals and companies. Additionally, the NIA’s investigations revealed that a large number of the syndicate’s activities were either supervised by leaders of organized terror groups that operated inside Indian prisons or were coordinated from overseas, especially in Canada.
