Rohit Sharma and Akash Ambani’s Intense Dugout Chat Following Mumbai Indians’ Second Defeat Under Hardik Pandya’s Captaincy
The Mumbai Indians are finding it difficult to shake the reputation of “slow starters” once more. MI sits at the bottom of the points chart after suffering their second straight loss in the IPL 2024. They are the only team that has played at least two games but has not yet opened their account. Following MI’s close defeat by six runs to the Gujarat Titans, there was optimism that the team would improve and extend its record against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
However, none anticipated what happened at Uppal’s Rajiv Gandhi Stadium last evening. The Sunrisers hitters, led by Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen, tore apart the MI bowlers in a show of vicious power hitting that resulted in the highest-ever IPL total of 277/3. MI made an effort and even managed to test the limits of SRH, but ultimately lost by 31 runs. Following the match, everyone was captivated by the sight of former MI captain Rohit Sharma having a serious conversation with owner Akash Ambani in the dugout. The match featured 38 sixes, so viewers saw the ball being flayed to all parts of the ground.
The camera moved to the MI dugout, where Tilak Varma, Rohit, Akash, and a staff member were engaged in a heated conversation as Hardik Pandya wrapped up his post-match interview with Ian Bishop. After some time, Rohit and Akash continued their conversation while Tilak and the management member, whose face was hidden, went their separate ways. Moving away from the dugout, Rohit and Akash found a new location, where Hardik eventually joined them, and the three of them went on.
The specific topic of the conversation would only be known to those who were present, but one thing is certain: Whatever it was, MI’s run of losses is what caused it. The choice was made to stop the franchise’s downward trend when Hardik was named captain. MI has not won the trophy in three years. For eight years, from 2013 to 2020, the team made it a routine to win one IPL title every season. Hardik was supposed to infuse new energy into the MI camp after leading the Gujarat Titans to one championship and one runner-up position during the previous two seasons, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Users feel something’s up within MI camp.
Some posts on X, particularly from fervent Rohit followers who haven’t warmed up to Hardik, make them feel… and by a long shot, this happens… that based on the animated conversations, MI may be considering making Rohit the captain again. However, it is the public’s viewpoint, which is influenced more by feelings than by reason. Ultimately, it is premature to draw conclusions from just two matches, and Hardik’s appointment is nothing like CSK’s hurried call-up of Ravindra Jadeja in 2022.
It wasn’t the first time that Rohit was observed interrupting a conversation.Rumors started to circulate after Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Arjun Tendulkar, and a few other MI players were seen in the MI dugout after MI lost to GT by six runs. Time will tell whether there’s more going on here than what first appears. Hardik has experience leading. While Rohit was gone focusing on ODIs, he achieved the desired outcomes with GT and the Indian squad in T20Is. He has large shoes to fill, though, at MI. His top goal is to start MI off strong this season and improve it game by game.
