On Saturday, Mukhtar Ansari, the gangster-turned-politician, will have his last ceremonies. The Kali Bagh Graveyard in Ghazipur is ready for the funeral. Mukhtar’s death via cardiac arrest was verified by a postmortem late on Friday, according to PTI, which quoted hospital sources. It further stated that a group of five doctors performed the autopsy. Mukhtar’s younger son, Umar Ansari, who was present at the Rani Durgavati Medical College during the autopsy, received his deadly remains after the examination. Late on Friday, Mukhtar’s body was transported to his Ghazipur residence in a lengthy caravan of cars from Banda.

As opposition parties questioned the gangster-politician’s death and his family claimed he was “slow poisoned” while incarcerated in Banda jail, a magistrate’s investigation was ordered. In addition, CJM Garima Singh was designated as the investigating officer by Banda Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhagwan Das Gupta, who also instructed her to turn up the investigation report within a month. A political uproar has been building in Uttar Pradesh in response to Mukhtar’s passing, with the opposition criticizing the Yogi Adityanath-led administration for the deaths of state jail inmates and calling for an impartial investigation into Mukhtar’s passing.
